Places Visited
Ladakh, or "Little Tibet" as it is known, is one of the most remote areas of India, lying to the north of the Great Himalaya on the Tibetan Plateau and to the south of the Karakoram.

Ladakh has a rich cultural and religious heritage as can be seen from the centuries-old monasteries, some of them built on sheer cliffs and still functioning actively. This region hardly gets rainfall, thus creating a spectacular moonscape characterized by deep gorges, snowy mountains and arid plains. A number of parallel mountain ranges, including the Great Himalayan Range, the Zanskar and Ladakh ranges, divide this territory, offering a wealth of 6000 metre peaks, and a maze of excellent trekking routes, which usually involve high pass crossings.

On this trip we will begin in the small village of Chilling and trek past hill top monasteries, descend the Ripchar valley, continue through more remote valleys, scattered high villages, each with its irrigated fields of barley and potatoes which add color to this otherwise quite barren environment to the base of Tsomothang. From here we cross the Kanjila (5150m) and descend to the open and scenic Suru Valley ending the trek near the picturesque Rangdum monastery scenically located against the backdrop of a myriad of colorful landscape.
