I have just returned from another Himalayan adventure organised through Rimo. It was the twelfth one organised by Yangdu and Mothup (and my 23rd Himalayan trip) so I think it’s fair to say I have a bit of knowledge and experience when it comes to Rimo!
I first met Yangdu and Mothup 25 years ago when they were a two person organisation and just starting out. Over the years I have watched them develop and grow their business and have come to know them and their staff very well. They seem to hold on to their employees for many years; a sure sign of a well-run and successful business.
The reason I continue to use Rimo is their ability to organise long distance treks in rather remote parts of the Himalayas. Most of my trips are 30 days plus and requires an experience and competent trekking agency to make the logistics work. Rimo is such a company. Their attention to detail, their extensive network of contacts and their ability to “make things happen” has always impressed me. On a number of occasions over the years, Rimo has organised emergency evacuations due to illness and/or accident. This has always been done in a highly professional manner. Very re-assuring when you consider that there is no formal search and rescue structure based in the Himalayas.
Good luck!!
Tina and me want to thank you for all you did for us - before-while and after our Ultimate Kanchenjunga Trek in November 2012. The trip was specially taylormade for the two of us and from the beginning (booking) to the end it was one of the best things we have ever done.
In the Garhwal Himalayan Mountains near the Chardham sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Gangotri on June 16-18, 2013, several thousand pilgrims died. We did not. We were there with Rimo Expeditions. It may not be overreaching to suggest that the two facts are connected.
Little late, I want to thank you for the perfect organization of our trip to Dolpo.
All worked best, we all enjoyed it very much, it was a great experience. Uden, our guide, was a very good choice, he was like a friend.
If there will be a possibility to come back to the Himalayas (Sikkim?) we would be happy to cooperate with RIMO another time.
A well-orchestrated cultural tour by car through several hill stations of Himachal Pradesh plus an initial visit to Rishikesh and a final visit to Amritsar and the nearby border. The basic program had an excellent selection of locations to visit and the refinements by Rimo were superb. The embellishments could not have been better. All logistics went perfectly well. A well-engineered trip with great client satisfaction for which Rimo needs to be commended.
Thank you so much for arranging such a wonderful holiday. The Nubra Valley trek was incredibly beautiful and exceeded our expectations in every way.
We loved the large Mountain Hardware tent, the delicious food, and the scenic trail. Bhim and the trekking staff were wonderful. We can hardly wait to return to India for another adventure with Rimo.
Over the years, we have trekked with several companies. Without a doubt, this trek with Rimo was among the best. The quality of the guides, food, equipment and hotels was the best we have experienced. I also want to thank you and Alka for arranging a stay at The Claridge Hotel in Delhi. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. I didn't want to leave the hotel, it was so nice..
Thank you again and we look forward to a future trip.
We really wanted to thank you for planning the most wonderful holiday for us in Ladakh.
We enjoyed it thoroughly and it was really well planned and included everything we had hoped for.
the trek was particularly special and has left us with memories that we will treasure forever.
The guest house that you chose for us in Leh- was a real treasure- it was quiet and clean and comfortable, just a few minutes walk from the town centre.
Many thanks
The holiday was excellent. All the places chosen were off beat and made our holiday even better. Especially Woodhouse Farm, the hospitality was excellent!
I would recommend the same combination for anybody who wants to stay away from the crowd.
Also, Dorjee was prompt in making all transportation arrangements, we did not face any problem. Please thank him on my behalf.
What an amazing time we all had at Rajasthan, it was a trip of a life time!!!
Thank you once again for organizing this mammoth task of putting together a fantastic itinerary. The ladies loved every minute of the experience, the hotels were excellent, a plethora of activities, never a dull moment. Including the camel ride at Jaisalmer was a huge treat as there were very few foreigners at this place. The ladies loved Uden who was very knowledgeable about the history of Rajasthan. Having him as a guide allowed me to have a good break.
Stay well and thanks for everything.
We are fully recovered after a wonderful trekking experience to Goechala. Please accept our thanks for organizing a fantastic trip. Also convey our appreciation to your staff of guides and sherpas for taking such good care of us.
Now we are home and we want to say thanks for the professional organizing of the travel. Our guide Dawa was an excellent person to show and to explain us a lot of thinks and so we could make a wounderful trip and new experience as well.
The staff was great and the meals were tasty and wholesome.
Our visit to Dolpo was really good in all respects and I heard only praise on the trek from my fellow trekkers for Uden, Niri and the crew - they did a great job. Our crossing of Dolpo was all that I had hoped for when you helped me plan the trek and I would warmly recommend the route to anybody: unspoilt villages set in their traditional field systems with friendly villagers still living (more or less) the lives of their forbears; herders, traders and drovers with their pony trains, yak caravans and enormous flocks of sheep and goats: very varied scenery across the entire route; interesting Bon and Buddhist religious structures: chortens, mane walls and gompas; and a real sense of unchanged remoteness with few other trekking groups. Uden was an excellent guide and we all got on with him very well. He is very bright and knowledgeable and taught us a lot about what we were seeing and hearing too in Dolpo. He had prepared some handouts for us on Buddhism to aid our understanding which were very useful, as was his library of field guides at tea time.
In terms of feedback, there is little for me to suggest in terms of improvements. The arrangements worked like clockwork and not even the massed crowds attending the festival at the Pashupatinath temple were able to make us late for our flight to Nepalgunj! .
So in summary we all had a brilliant trek and loved every minute! Uden and the crew were great and looked after us in the best Rimo tradition we have come to respect and we are very grateful to them all.
Very best wishes
This is just a brief note to pass on my thanks to Rimo for a great experience with the Markha Valley trek which we recently completed.
My daughter and I were very impressed with the whole experience from start to finish. The team (Dipesh and all the guys who cooked, set up camp and handled the horses) were friendly, helpful, cheerful, and worked tirelessly every day to make it an enjoyable, safe and comfortable experience.
Everyone else we dealt with- Thinles, Skalzang, Rigzen in Leh (and Alka by email) - were friendly and helpful.
It was clear to us on the trek that Rimo were the most professional and well-organised crew out there.
You can be proud of the team you have got at Rimo.
As an aside we were also very happy with the quality of service (and food) at the Snow Land in Leh.
If I hear of people wanting to trek in the region I will be happy to recommend you to them.
We would like to thank you for arranging a wonderful holiday. The hotels chosen, the arrangements, the mix of travel and the efficiency and friendliness of the support crew were all excellent and we both really enjoyed ourselves. The trek was interesting and the scenery superb. Rigzin was a splendid guide, helped by his really excellent English, not to speak of his knowing our part of England and the school our sons went to, which plays Bryanston at cricket and rugby.
I cannot really say much more because there are no criticisms, complaints or suggestions for improvement -just all round excellence. I would not hesitate to recommend your company, or to use your help again.
Many thanks for a great time.
Thank you very much for all the work you did to make our trek a success. Thank you too for the RIMO t-shirts and caps that you sent for everybody. I have attached a picture of the KES group out on our trek and will forward an image of the team in their shirts - please feel free to use them in your publicity material or on your website if that would be useful to you!
We got back home without mishap.
I'll be in touch soon with possible dates for another trek in 2019!
I enjoyed several trips with RIMO peoples. Meticulous planning and execution, even if something goes wrong as it may. Above all I admire generosity and friendliness of all, starting from the top! If there is one, they deserve Oscar of trekking professionals!
Overall lize and I thought that ur program for us could not have been better.
Ur organisational staff in Leh were welcoming relaxed extremely competent
and made us feel extremely well looked after from the moment we arrived.
Ur operational staff Stanzin and Rigzin are well chosen extraordinarily personable knowledgeable and informative, although Stanzin occasionally loses focus.
Hotels A1 especially Rigzin's hotel in Tiger village. Rigzin and wife amazing.
Occasionally agenda included too much. I reckon 2 locations per day is about as much as one is capable of...and a bit more walking. More quality, less quantity and driving.
Walk had perfect amount of wilderness challenge culture people, and although we initially thought the support resource was a little over the top, maybe no Sherpa and one less cook, we absolutely loved all of them.
FYI the Haveli Dharmapura in old delhi is one of the best experiential hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world. It's the full immersion experience. An oasis in a madhouse.
We will be back.
We just returned home from our Sikkim trek and would like to thank you for the great time we had. Everything from the first up to last day worked perfectly and we really enjoyed it. Most of credits for this great trip go to our guide Ujjwal and the rest of the team – Niri, Dawa, Naresh, Younis, Samir, Mindu, Hissay & Sonam.
Many thanks to all of you and see you again on one of next Rimo treks.
I am now back in Darjeeling having had the most amazing trek - it was everything I wished for and much much more !
The weather was fabulous, blue skys every day with stunning views of the
mountains and wonderful hospitality. Our guide Pemba was without doubt
one of the best guides I have ever had, charming, helpful, a real star !
We had a great experience. The team was truly amazing. Pemba is a great guide and we were very impressed by how hardworking Lendokh is. I would definitely recommend Rimo to everybody. Also the food was great. Rose and I kept saying to each other how much we enjoyed Rimo. This is not just a message out of politeness, we really mean this! We also tipped more than we would normally do, just to show them how happy we were .
Thanks.
Sarah and I wanted to send you a note to thank you and all the Rimo team behind the scenes for a really excellent trek last week to the Markha Valley. It could not have gone better and we are very glad that we chose Rimo.
For us the camping was perfect, versus homestays, as we really liked the privacy and independence that it gave us.The tent was excellent, and we could not believe the lengths that the boys went to for our comfort and enjoyment; And who would have thought that it was possible to bake a cake using a couple of LPG gas rings!
Of course it is the people who really make a difference and your loyal and professional team did you proud. It makes such a difference to be with genuine experts who you can trust; we saw some other groups along the route that were not in the same fortunate position.
We were both stretched by the adventure, and learnt a good deal about our own capacity; perhaps about 5000m may be the altitude limit for us. But we absolutely know that we want to come back for another Himalaya trek, as soon as we can arrange it; and we will have no hesitation in seeking out Rimo for our next trip. Indeed we have already recommended you to some friends.
With renewed thanks to you all for all the arrangements and support.
I am so very appreciative of all that the staff of Rimo Expeditions did to make our 2017 adventure a great success on every level. Rimo took care of all our arrangements, from domestic flights to everything in Leh (including the most inviting Kang La Chen hotel), to renting motorcycles for our acclimatization days, and then all aspects of an amazing 8-day trek. The responsiveness of Rimo staff to our various questions and other correspondence during the planning phase was excellent, and once we hit the ground in India, everything ran like clockwork (not to be taken for granted in India!). Everyone was unfailingly polite and accommodating, and we always felt that we were getting top-notch service. The quality of all the equipment, meals and services delivered was also 100%, despite difficult conditions on an 8-day trek that took all four members of our group up to 6,137 metres in elevation (summit of Stok Kangri). This was my third expedition with Rimo, and I am anxious to begin planning the next one! Please extend my thanks once again to all the wonderful people who helped us as part of the Rimo team: Dani, Rigzen, Tsewang, Gomba, Kharu, Naresh, Jamyang, and our expedition leader, Uden. These are all wonderful people, and I am very grateful to have known them. To Yangdu and Motup, you run a great company that provides great value to its clients. Keep up the great work!
Hi! Just a quick message to say that (yet again!) Rimo did a superb job arranging everything, the staff on the trek were great, the hotels were good, and quite simply I had a great time. I’ll have no hesitation in recommending Rimo to others, as I have before.
On a personal note I saw a tiger in Ranthambhore! That was something I had mentally dismissed beforehand (not wanting to be disappointed) but it happened and that was a real bonus. We also saw a lynx (rare), and a lot of deer and birdlife. Kumbalhgarh Fort was another highlight. Not only that, there must be hundreds of photos in circulation of me as the token westerner in Indians’ selfies!
Many many thanks to you both,
John.
Thank you for making our adventures so enjoyable!
Having experienced guided expeditions on seven continents, I feel that I am in a position to compare Rimo's service and standards to others around the world. While there are many companies that offer good, average, or poor service, Rimo ranks with those that offer an exceptional experience to the traveler. And having completed four treks with Rimo (Uttaranchal, Ladakh, West Bengal and Sikkim), I can attest to the consistency of their excellent service.
Throughout my stay in India I was in the hands of Rimo Expeditions. I just can’t say enough good things about Rimo and their staff. At every turn I was treated like breakable China. Rimo was there for me at every turn. They were unfailing in their promptness and courtesy . There was never a misstep during my entire visit. If Rimo was to meet me – they were there – punctually and smiling. At every step of the way Rimo performed far beyond my expectations. I cannot begin to thank all the many Rimo staff who executed their duties flawlessly. Pemba, the guide, Chotemba whom the Sherpa who brought me to Yuksom, Alka who made arrangement from the Delhi office. All of these people, the porters and yak herders and those whose names I have forgotten or never know saw me safely from place to place – off planes and onto planes – onto trains and off trains – on buses and off buses. All these people without exception were courteous and efficient and made me feel that I was in good hands. Rimo is doing an excellent job.
I would like to thank you for the very professional way the trekking as well as the other arrangements were organized. With this level of quality I am sure that your organization is bound to be one of the best if not the best. We shall definitely recommend you to anyone who is planning a trekking trip in the Himalayan region.
We have never had such a good three weeks. Our crew was outstanding: professional, helpful and always cheerful. By the end, we felt like one big, happy family. The food was better than we eat at home. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for a perfect trek.
We received your wishes for the holiday and want to let you know that our most perfect Christmas present was our trip to India! Stan, Ariana and I cannot thank you all enough for orchestrating a perfect three weeks. Every aspect of the trip went smoothly and we loved every day. The three of us thank you all so much for helping us have a trip of a lifetime…….and we’ve been lots of places before…
We had a good time in India going with RIMO. All things RIMO organized for us were perfect in timing and perfect in using the equipment. The tents were really good quality. The crew as friendly and good working. The cook and his helpers were very exact in boiling water to keep us Europeans healthy. Our guide was very good and keep us safe. Generally can be said that joining Rimo Expeditions was a good choice for us and we will tell this to the other interested people.
Back home we want to point out that we were very surprised and impressed due to the perfect organization of our stay – accommodation, excursions and trekking – to Ladakh. Compliments to our guide and crew.
We wanted to let you know what an exceptional trip we enjoyed to Ladakh and how much of it was due to Rimo. We both appreciated and were incredibly impressed with your staff, their intelligence, talents, enthusiasm, and just general human goodness – not to mention the amazing cooking.
First I want to thank you for the perfect organization of our trek. My friends who could do the trek were very satisfied. I also want to thank you personally for your help regarding my illness. I can recommend Rimo Expeditions to my friends and perhaps I can come again in a better healthy condition.
Our trip to Ladakh was wonderful and I am just writing to tell you that we are extremely happy with your organization. The trek was perfectly organized, the equipment professional, the crew superefficient and nice, the cook worked wonders.
We want to emphasise the success of the Markha trek due to the excellent guide – caring , friendly, enthusiastic together with the cook ( meals were fantastic every day). All crew, horsemen were great and always a pleasure to be with. Please inform all members of the crew once again of our gratitude for their efforts to make the markha trek unforgettable.
“RIMO”, You are great, each one of you. Motup, you are well- represented with your employees, each one is quite different from the others , yet each fulfills his or her prescribed roll so well and leaves clients with the feeling that we are in the hands of the best.
I want to express my satisfaction with the superb support and service provided by RIMO Expeditions on our recently completed Singalila trek. Without a doubt RIMO Expeditions is one of the finest organizations I have encountered in my many years of travel. All staff from Tenzee, Raj Kumar, NimaDorje, Wangda right don down through the various other Sherpas, porters, and camp / cook helpers were excellent. I was very impressed that you attended our farewell dinner. Your attendance demonstrated a real commitment and desire to be the very best tour operations company!
The organization was faultless and Bhim and his trek team really looked after me . The tent was superb, and the trekking equipment no problem. Wonderful service and the best possible report for all of them.
Extremely impressive the perfect organization! This was so nice for my friends to see: Germany in general is very often linked with “ perfect organization”, your organization, however, set an even higher benchmark. Special thanks once more for your flexibility in organization and care shown to Eva and Werner who very much enjoyed their stay in Darjeeling.
The service Rimo provided was, as we have come to expect, excellent. Everything worked very smoothly. Santabir’s cooking was even better than normal, and his normal is very good. Anup, as am sure you know, is a young man with a great future ahead of him. He is competent, emotionally intelligent, full of good humour, and very effective.
Our overall experience of our trip was an extremely happy one and every Rimo staff member we met, from airport to airport, was helpful, happy, and an asset to the trip (and all very proud to work for Rimo).
Knowing that we were well looked after really helped us put all our efforts into reaching the summit, a summit we are all very proud of.
Dear Yangdu & Motup,
I want to THANK YOU two personally, all at Rimo, & everyone else involved in the retrieval process of our gear.
The effort & logistical organisation of climbing back up to Base Camp to ascertain the damage caused by the weather & bears, & then the time taken to get it all back down the mountain, out to Leh, onwards to Delhi & finally to the UK, is simply remarkable.
It turns out that I have had virtually everything returned & I envisage the work your guys must have undertaken at Base Camp to thoroughly search the area, look under every stone & lump of snow, to bag it all up & get it back to Leh, to then dry it all out, pack it all up & get it sent to the UK, as well as you hand carrying electrical goods on your recent visit to London.
You have all gone above & beyond the call of duty for us, your Clients, & it is hugely appreciated.
On behalf of the whole team, Thank You once again.
I hope you all have a wonderful Winter & I look forward to seeing you & Rimo again in the future
We got back yesterday (to the Wash. DC area) and had to let you know what a wonderful trip we had with our friends Des and Marla and Uden to the Kanchenjunga base camps (perfect weather at both base camps.)
Thanks so much.... We really got the Rimo "A" team of not just Uden but also Samgyal who we did Miyar Glacier with in 2007 (his half-brother Mingma was our 2005 Stok Kangri climbing guide with Norbu.) Lots of Rimo "family".... Raj Kumar's son Dinesh, Bhim's cousin Ram were both delightful and hardworking, and of course Suriya our cook was incredible (we remember fondly his father Neery as our cook on Miyar.)
Dave & Peggy
Hi Yangdu,
I thought it was time to write and say thank you to you and all the brilliant Rimo people who made Anna and my trip in July so brilliant. This is my third trip with you and the first personal trip and every one has been exceptionally supported by Rimo. Please pass on our heartfelt thanks for making our 50th birthday trip so memorable. I am still sorting the photos but will get around to it and will DropBox them to you.
