The Garhwal region is of considerable significance in the Hindu mythology and on this trip we follow part of the ancient pilgrimage route between the temples of Gangotri and Kedarnath through the lower valley passing through pristine countryside with forests and meadows filled with alpine flowers as shepherds lazily graze their sheep in these vast meadows. We walk along the Panwali Kanta Dhar ( ridge of winds)which offers majestic panoramic views of Thalay Sagar (6904m) and other peaks right across to Chaukhamba (7138m). It’s a refreshing walk along a trail that has seen few trekkers with a wonderful insight into the ancient Hindu culture as we end this trip in the holy town of Rishikesh.
