A very interesting beginning at the famous Lamayuru monastery, you walk up the less travelled Ripchar valley with remarkable landscape, a number of parallel mountain ranges, including the Great Himalaya Range, and then north of that the Zanskar and then Ladakh ranges, divide this territory, offering a wealth of 6000 metre peaks, and a maze of excellent trekking routes, which usually involve high pass crossings. Scattered high villages, each with its irrigated fields of barley and potatoes, add colour to this otherwise quite barren environment. On this trip we will trek through the lesser travelled Ripchar Valley , cross the Zanskar river by cable pulley to trek into the popular Markha valley before moving to higher grounds and the base of Kangyatse to climb the left shoulder of Kangyatse – a peak requiring just the basic mountaineering skills – an excellent ending to this wonderful trek.
